Just as I was recovering from jet lag after an exhilarating trip to New York City, I received an unexpected call from Fremantle. They needed a social media strategist for the special 10th season of Holland’s Got Talent, and they needed me immediately. Despite my lingering fatigue, I couldn’t resist the challenge. Upon arriving at their office, I was handed a box containing a new MacBook, iPhone, Snapchat Spectacles, and other accessories. They informed me, “You ARE the social media team. Filming has already started in Zwolle.” To my surprise, they had also booked a hotel for me for four nights without prior notice.
On the train ride from Amsterdam to Zwolle, I had to quickly devise a comprehensive social media strategy and conduct audience analytics. I pondered, “What would different Dutch viewers want to see on their feeds?” I decided to spotlight the live audience by interviewing them on-site, chat with celebrity hosts like Chantal Janzen, Umberto Tan, Angela Groothuizen, Dan Karaty, and Paul de Leeuw, and provide an exclusive behind-the-scenes look with the candidates. Armed with my DSLR and Adobe Lightroom, I snapped and edited photos on the fly during live finals, posting them during commercial breaks to keep viewers engaged. It was a whirlwind, but the adrenaline and excitement of the project kept me going.
